The Suffering of Desire

The Suffering of Desire

The desire to be free from desire is still desire.

We desire and so we suffer.

We suffer and so we desire freedom from suffering.

Blissful contentment is the only freedom from desire.

True contentment, non-wanting...

The absence of desire, the presence of non-desire.

To know there is nothing to desire

is not the same as to understand there is nothing to desire.

To understand there is nothing to desire

is not the same as to realize there is nothing to desire.

We are, each of us, bound to our desires

until we truly realize there is nothing to desire.

One must guard against the desire for true realization,

lest we subject ourselves to the suffering of desire.

True realization is not born of the desire to know,

but to know there is, at last, nothing to desire.

Freedom from the desires of the self,

freedom from the self itself,

is a freedom that must be given by the self

to the self... Selflessly.

This selfless freedom may only be given to each of us

by ourselves.
